Heatmap

A heatmap is a visual representation tool that highlights the intensity of a phenomenon using color gradients.

Similar to the statistics tool, to access the heatmap tool, simply click on the desired layer in the geoportal’s catalog and then on the Heatmap tab.

Note

The only layers that can be used to create a heatmap are point layers in GeoJSON format.

Heatmaps can be generated through a field selector where, depending on the selected field, the shape and intensity of the heatmap will vary. Only numeric fields such as geometry, id, etc., will work.

There are three variables to represent the heatmap (radius, blur, intensity) that can be modified using sliders.

  • Radius: determines the size of the point’s influence area. The minimum is 0 and the maximum is 50. The radius size is not fixed but a proportion relative to the zoom and screen area.

  • Blur: indicates the smoothness of the color gradient from the center to the edges. The more blur, the more the influence areas of different points blend where they overlap. With 0% blur, we would get shapes similar to those of intersections in a Venn diagram.

  • Intensity: represents the strength with which the red color is painted, which is the color of the epicenter of the point’s incidence area.
