Groups

Another different way to manage users is through groups, i.e., a union of several users. This tool is very useful when it comes to permissions, as it allows granting permission to an entire group instead of doing it user by user.

Create New Group

To create a new group, click on the “Add” button, and it will redirect us to the following window:

  • Name: Name given to the new group.
  • Permissions: In the permissions window, you will find the extensive list of permissions available in the Geoportal Administrator application, such as adding users, allowing editing, enabling layer loading, deleting information, etc. You can select all the desired permissions in the right-hand window using the arrows. There is also an option to add all of them at once.
  • Users: This window displays all the available users in the application to whom permission can be granted. Similar to before, you can use the arrows to choose which users will be part of the group.

Modify User Data

To modify any data of a user, click on “Modify” at the beginning of the tab, and it will redirect us to the window where there are several options to make changes to the user.

Delete Group

If you want to delete one or more groups, you can select the desired groups at the top of the table and choose the option “Delete Selected Groups” from the dropdown menu above.

Permissions by Groups

We can assign the groups to which the user belongs. In this case, the permissions will be inherited as defined in the group. We can indicate in which tables of the Geoportal Administrator database the user has permissions and which ones they don’t:

  • add: can add records to the specified table.
  • modify: can modify records in the specified table.
  • delete: can delete records from the specified table.
  • view: cannot edit anything but can view the information.

For example, if we want a user to be able to edit data from the administrator but not add new users, we will give them all the permissions except those related to user tables:
